Good for the soul
More than £1200 raised at a Dundee soul music event is being donated to the Ninewells Hospital neonatal unit and Glenlaw House care home.
Kevin McCabe and Bob Caird used to go along to soul nights regularly but found that a lot of the music being played was modern soul, instead of the “oldies northern soul sound” that they preferred.
Therefore, they decided to start their own club and to donate all profits to local good causes. Known as the Dundee Oldies Club, they held their first event in the Craigtay Hotel in May 2005.
Since then, the club has gone from strength to strength and has been involved in organising numerous successful music events and still continues to do so.
Their most recent event was a dance night held at The Friary last month to which around 250 people attended from all over Scotland.
The £1266 made from this event is being halved and donated to Ninewells Hospital neonatal unit and Glenlaw House care home on Thursday (12 June).
Senior Nurse of Neonatal Services at Ninewells, Alison Wright, said, “We are extremely grateful for this donation and the money will be put to good use for comfort items for babies and their families.”
Glenlaw House is a respite facility providing a homely environment for children and young people with profound learning disabilities and complex healthcare needs.
Acting Charge Nurse at Glenlaw House, Alison Marshall, said, “We wish to thank Kevin and Bob very much for this generous donation, which will be used to the benefit of the children.”

NEWS LETTER
Posted by admin in News
This is now our 3rd year running the Dundee Oldies Club we want to thank everyone for there support in helping us to help others.
At the last event we came across tickets that had been copied, due to this we have had to take more precautions so please be patient as tickets will now be checked thoroughly at the door. Anyone caught with a copied ticket will be named and shamed and barred from the club and I have been told other clubs may also ban any person caught. We all feel that this is tarnishing the name of Northern Soul in Dundee and it will not be tolerated. These are charity nights and we have restricted numbers that we must keep to for safety reason so please order your tickets early.
You have helped us raise £7,318.00 for local support groups and charities please keep helping us to
help others.
